12-MICRON- SYDNEY’S DESSERT DEGUSTATION HEAVEN
An impressive new addition to the collection of restaurants down at Barangaroo is 12-Micron. 12-Micron is a modern Australian restaurant featuring two incredible chefs. The first is executive chef Justin Wise, winner of the ‘Young Chef of the Year” award in 2009 (The Age Good Food Guide). The second, Darren Purchese, a famous UK pastry chef who is now working in Australia.
The enormous 230 seat restaurant is easily twice the size of most of the restaurants on the promenade below. As their tagline suggests, they have gone with a casual, beautiful and modern decor and dinning experience. The space is ideal for private dining, large groups as well as smaller tables.
The restaurant is bright and open with roof to floor glass windows that look out onto the harbour. It also features an impressive bar area, cocktail menu and wine selection.
If you’re waiting at the bar or sitting at your table dinning, then be sure to try out one of their cocktails. There was a beautiful and refreshing wine cocktail called “Wine On Deck” which was made with white wine, vodka, elderflower and fresh grapes.
One of the things that originally attracted me to 12 Micron was the degustation dessert menu, but like any civil adult I had to eat some proper food first- or so said the quiet internal voice of my mother in my head 😉
The menu is split into Earth, Air, Ocean and Land and made to share. The wait staff helped to guide us to the right number of dishes that we needed for our party.
But the moment I had been waiting for had finally arrived…. Dessert! While we didn’t go for the degustation menu, we did choose 5 desserts to share between 4. Each dessert was creative, colourful and showcased detailed plating that made the desserts that much more appetising.
While it’s always hard to pick a favourite, the deconstructed strawberry cheesecake won me over. With fermented strawberry and white chocolate, the dish was saturated in colour and flavour.
12-Micron is open for lunch and dinner with the dessert menu being served until late, seven days a week. They also have a number of special events running:
Monday to Thursday from 5-7pm they are running sunset sessions, where you can enjoy an afternoon drink (or two), at social prices.
It’s that time of year again, the Vivid Sydney outdoor light spectacular runs from May the 26th until June 17th. 12-Micron are offering VIVID offers including Champagne & Oysters plus a special cocktail and dessert.
