HANDY TIPS TO ENJOY BEST SEGWAY RIDE EXPERIENCE

  • Subtle, smaller movements: Small movements deliver the smoothest Segway experience. A light lean to the left or right is sufficient to turn the bike in that direction.
  • Pay attention to foot placement: Wrong foot placement will make you wobble and twitch on the road while riding the Segway. Keep your feet a little further forward on the foot boards for perfect riding balance.
  • Safety wear and gear: Wear a helmet, long pants, long-sleeved T-shirt, and closed toe shoes.
  • Don’t panic: Subtle movements are all that you need. When you panic, you react quickly and the machine too will reciprocate with strong movements.
  • Hold Segway firmly: Have a firm hold on the handlebar with both hands all the time. Don’t try to take photos or use your phone as that can be dangerous and in most cities illegal. Don’t worry though you get plenty of time to stop and take photos along the way.
  • Be watchful of surroundings: Be mindful of slippery surfaces, gravel, loose stones, sand, potholes and other hazards as these reduce traction between the road and Segway tires.
  • Practice practice practice: As the old saying goes practice makes perfect and riding a Segway is no different. I’m a very clumsy individual and after 20 minutes of practice, I was much more confident.
  • Pay attention to obstacles: Be watchful of your surroundings while riding the Segway. Pay attention to obstacles such as trees, lamp posts, pedestrians, benches, cars, bikes etc.
  • Accelerating, slowing and braking: Acceleration requires a forward lean and slight weight shift, while braking requires a backward lean and weight shift. It sounds complicated but it really isn’t, that’s because a Segway is set to balance. Even when stopping at speed the Segway feels balanced and in control.
